Child's Play and its five sequels all go Blu with cheesy, maniacal style...

Universal / 535 Minutes / 1988-2013 / Rated R / Street Date: October 8, 2013

Six-year-old Andy (Alex Vincent) is thrilled when he gets a brand new, Cheery Chucky doll for his birthday. But he quickly discovers that Chucky is possessed by the soul of a notorious serial killer (Brad Dourif, Exorcist III) who swiftly begins terrorizing Andy, his ill-fated babysitter, and his disbelieving mom, Karen (Catherine Hicks, 7th Heaven). And he doesn’t stop there. Proving he’s nobody to toy with, the demonic doll schemes to transfer his evil spirit out of its “kid-friendly” container and… into Andy!

This quickie backdrop of the Child’s Play universe will likely be implicitly familiar to horror buffs who grew up with not only the legitimately creepy original, but its five sequels: Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, and Curse of Chucky. The major question at hand with a giant compilation like Child’s Play: The Complete Collection, though, isn’t necessarily whether the movies it contains are any good (even strident Chucky defenders have to admit to many of these sequels’ shortcomings) but if an $80 set like this one is worth the investment.

It goes without saying that the Child’s Play movies look and sound better than they did on DVD (or VHS) on this high-definition collection, and there are even some surprisingly illuminating supplements added here that flush out Chucky’s universe with almost encyclopedic attention to detail. Grab your favorite demonic doll and join us as we investigate the movies disc by disc…
