Video: How Does the Disc Look?

G.I. Joe: Retaliationgot a 3D upconversion late in the game – it missed its original release date by a few months – and it really didn’t need one. As showcased by the 2D 2.40:1 1080p transfer included on this three disc set, the movie has a perfectly sleek feel to it, with detail accuracy appearing natural and punchy. Color consistency is also extraordinary – both in terms of deep hues and more delicate flesh tones – and compression artifacts are nowhere to be found. As a 3D experience, though, Retaliation falls flat. Are there a few moments where the added dimension really adds a layer of excitement to the activity on screen? Sure. But for the most part, space representation isn’t entirely convincing.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

If you couple the 2D 1080p presentation of G.I. Joe: Retaliation with the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound mix included on this Blu-ray edition, you’ll have yourself a ball. The eight-channel track here is completely consuming and exciting, with surrounds whirring to life early and often, and an overall sense of fidelity that is powerfully dynamic. Effects and the movie’s musical score also have a solid presence to them, and dialogue is audible throughout the whole affair. Absolutely excellent – a reference-quality track.

French, Spanish, and Portuguese Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks are included, as are English SDH, French, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles.
