Video: How Does the Disc Look?
Shot digitally, Broken City looks pretty much just like it should on this 2.40:1 1080p transfer. Black levels are sturdy without ever resorting to crush, color accuracy is sharp and well-balanced, and detail is always impressively punchy, with textures near and far appearing clean and natural. Compression artifacting is kept to a minimum, and aliasing and banding really don’t show up that much at all.
Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?
The DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound mix included on the movie’s Blu-ray debut is a bit less notable than its video counterpart, but it’s able to preserve the movie nicely. Dialogue is audible from start to finish, and while surround channels don’t get an exceptional workout, when they do kick in, the results are effective and immersive. Fidelity is dynamic throughout, as well, and while music cues are perhaps a bit too bossy for their own good, this lossless track gets the job done.
Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 and Italian DTS 5.1 tracks are included, as are English SDH, Spanish, and Italian subtitles.
