Video: How Does the Disc Look?

There are some ever-so-slight instances of aliasing on this 1.78:1 1080p transfer, but for the most part, Rise of the Guardians is solid-looking in high-def. Color accuracy is especially fine-tuned, with both delicate tones and deep, robust hues coming across with vivid clarity. Black levels are consistent, to boot, and detail is often unbelievably authentic. This isn’t perhaps an honest-to-goodness reference-quality presentation, but it comes darned close.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

Any reservations on Rise of the Guardian’s video presence don’t apply to this Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound mix: it’ll slap you silly. This lossless track showcases unbelievable fidelity – its music is especially robust and panoramic – and dialogue is crystal clear from beginning to end. Surrounds are given an almost wall-to-wall workout, too, and high- and low-ends are preserved totally naturally. The movie itself may be so-so, but this monstrous mix is seriously impressive.

French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks are included, as are English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles.
