Video: How Does the Disc Look?

I’m sure it sounds repetitive, but Criterion just keeps knocking it out of the park. This 1.33:1 1080p transfer on A Man Escaped’s Blu-ray debut is breathtaking. Contrast is clean and authentic-looking, detail accuracy is impossibly sharp, and grain is handled wonderfully, with the movie coming across with a vivid glow that serves it wonderfully. Compression artifact is a non-issue, the transfer print the studio utilized is impressively clean and free of blemish – this is another CC knockout. Soak it in.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

The LPCM French 1.0 track included on this BD is also top-of-the-line. Dialogue is always audible, and effects and atmospherics appear just as they should. A perfect way to experience A Man Escaped’s sonic sensibilities. Make sure to watch the Functions of Film Sound featurette before diving into the film itself, though – it’ll illuminate the movie’s wonderful sound design really well.

English SDH subtitles are included.
