Video: How Does the Disc Look?

It’s wonderful to soak up the regal high-def treatment bestowed to a movie like The Blob on Blu-ray. Criterion presents the film here with a 1.66:1 1080p transfer that is stunningly authentic and accomplished. Detail quality is impossibly sharp, color accuracy seems well-defined and consistent, and black levels are wonderfully inky from top to bottom. Grain is also handled excellently here, with the movie coming across in a lovely glow that suits its B-movie sensibilities perfectly. Excellent.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

The Blob sounds just as it should on this LPCM mono track. Preserving all the movie’s hiss and crackle lovingly, the movie on this lossless presentation showcases strong dialogue, boomy music, and a few B-movie sound effects that totally work. It’s not exactly a reference-quality demo track, but fans won’t hesitate to admit that the movie has never sounded better.

English SDH subtitles are included.
