Video: How Does the Disc Look?

Misgivings with the movie itself aside, The Kid With a Bike is glorious on this 1.85:1 1080p transfer. The gritty yet colorful feel of the Dardennes’ herky-jerky style is perfectly represented here, with color accuracy seeming vivid and well-balanced. Detail quality is exquisite, with textures small and large appearing natural and authentic, and there are no instances of compression artifacting or aliasing to mention in any capacity. In short: Criterion nails it.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

The DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound mix included on this Blu-ray Disc is also top-of-the-line. Dialogue is audible throughout, and while there isn’t a lot of gymnastics to mention in terms of sound design trickery, atmospherics have a wonderful presence, establishing the world of the movie excellently. Surrounds kick in early and often, and fidelity is dynamic across the board. One couldn’t ask for much more.

English SDH subtitles are included.
