Video: How Does the Disc Look?

It wouldn't be entirely fair to refer to The Well-Digger's Daughter as looking exceptional on this 1.85:1 1080p transfer, but it's hard not to be at least a little impressed with the movie's visual design as represented here. Compression artifacting is kept to a minimum, thankfully, and while aliasing and banding are infrequent inhibitors, they're not enough to fully detract from the movie's experience. No, this presentation comes with lush and strongly balanced color quality, sharp detail quality, and consistent black levels that give it a larger-than-life glow that suits the movie quite well indeed.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

The DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound mix included is also perfectly appropriate, showcasing the undulating Desplat score and the film's French dialogue with keen prowess. Surrounds aren't given exceptionally fervent workouts, but that's the way this track has been designed - The Well-Digger's Daughter may not arrive on Blu-ray with an exceptionally adventurous sound design, but this lossless presentation captures the film's mood truthfully, nevertheless.

English subtitles are burned in here, so you'll have to live with them.
