Best Doctor Who ever? Not quite. A great excuse to waste three hours? You bet....

BBC / 225 Minutes / 2012 / Unrated / Street Date: November 13, 2012
The new Who may not hold up in a Pepsi Challenge against Whos of old, but there's no question that this all-too-short Series 7, Part 1 Blu-ray set is a blast. Describing the events in these episodes make them sound hokey and Saturday-cartoon crazy - dinosaurs! spaceships! aliens! - but in the context of the resilient Doctor Who universe, these babies work like gangbusters.
Our fair Doctor this time around is played by none other than Matt Smith, a young guy, but not without well-worn sensibilities. He travels from place to place and time zone to time zone with pals Rory (Arthur Darvill) and Amy (Karen Gillan), and tries to stay out of trouble as often as possible (this rarely works). The team gets sent to a scary Dalek supervillain planet, they deal with a particularly massive alien invasion of Earth, and even have to contemplate the difficulties of being trapped on a spaceship with a pack of dinosaurs (boy, I know how that feels....).
All one needs to know about this compilation is that if you're the type of viewer who has a sweet tooth for all things Doctor, you'll be transported via these installments. I doubt this is the modern show at its most air-tight, but there's no question that this geek barreled through this 3+ hour set in one very long Friday night. I urge fellow Doctor Who dweebs to do the same.
