Video: How Does the Disc Look?

Purple Noon comes to Criterion Blu-ray with a supple and gorgeous 1.66:1 1080p transfer that is a knockout on all fronts. There may be just a scant handful of elements of dirt and grime to mention, but it's easy to sweep them under the rug when color quality and detail accuracy are as strong as they are here. Grain is also handled meticulously, lending the movie a retro sheen that totally makes the experience. Black levels are striking and inky throughout, as well. Marvelous.

Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?

The movie's original French sound design is represented perfectly with this LPCM 1.0 sound mix - we simply couldn't ask for more. This mono track has been cleaned up suitably, and while there are certainly ceilings as to how robust the film sounds in terms of dialogue and music, as with so many grand Criterion high-def releases, it's easy to say that the movie won't be sounding much better than this any time soon.

English SDH subtitles are included.
