"Well, I think she is a lesbian, and she wants to sleep with me...."

E1 / 91 Minutes / 2000 / Unrated / Street Date: September 25, 2012

Oh, dear. Nudity in movies is almost always welcome, but Tinto Brass movies overdo it a little. This is not to say that the Italian director's movies are too scandalous for the screen - no, they're simply... repetitive. Academics might argue that the very act of copulation in its many forms is innately repetitive (after all, with every act, the same result is desired), but movies like Cheeky! are almost dull in terms of their uninspired default nakedness.

I don't mean to imply that Carla (Yuliya Mayarchuk) isn't easy on the eyes: every time she flashes her caboose (which is often), it's hard not to offer an appropriate appreciation. But the screenwriting at hand in Cheeky! is so bombastically one-note and undernourished that within its first reel, one feels the need to start mocking the thing. Carla finds a new apartment... then sleeps with her lady realtor. Lady realtor isn't fully ready for a lesbian relationship... but she will go with Carla to a swinger's party and bang anyone who says hello to her.

This is Cheeky!. Young women in various states of undress, stupefying tendrils of plot connecting nudity-laden scenes, and then THE END. It's a wonderful world we live in when a soft-core peddler like Tinto Brass gets high-definition appreciation (he takes the opportunity on the interview included here to defend his work artistically - it's pretty funny), but just try getting through Cheeky! in one sitting.
