Another round of high-def Pixar shorts that are just as impressive as the last set....
Buena Vista / 75 Minutes / 2005-2012 / Unrated / Street Date: November 13, 2012
From the creative minds that produced Toy Story, Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, and Brave comes this second volume of pioneering short films from the Pixar team. Animation enthusiasts have long been forced to satisfy themselves by enjoying a diet of Pixar shorts served up from bonus material contained on various feature-film DVD and Blu-ray releases (or not at all in the case of several shorts), but now said demographic has a chance to soak up some seriously impressive digital animation all in one place.
The thing that impresses right off the bat with this latest Short Films set is that in the arena of non-feature-length material, Pixar is able to do things in a more experimental style. There's aren't necessarily art films, of course, but for every Air Mater here that is clearly a Looney Tunes style cartoon short, there are titles like the Oscar-nominated La Luna and Day & Night that are fascinatingly off the beaten path stylistically while always maintaining an easy, consumable mass-market feel. This may be a Blu-ray set for the intently devoted only, but what a mesmerizing compilation it is.
Cartoons included: Your Friend the Rat, Presto, BURN-E, Partly Cloudy, Dug's Special Mission, George and A.J., Day & Night, Hawaiian Vacation, Air Mater, Small Fry, Time Travel Mater, and La Luna.
