Video: How Does the Disc Look?
Magic Mike should look like a million bucks on Blu-ray, but this 2.40:1 1080p presentation isn't without its pitfalls. Shot digitally, the movie has lovely color accuracy, and black levels are immediate and inky throughout. Detail quality is also sharp, with textures appearing natural and authentic. Aliasing, though, pops up way more than it should - it's sometimes quite distracting. It's not enough to ruin the movie's entire visual punch - 9 times out of 10, it looks great - but we were expecting a knockout here.
Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?
The DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound mix on Magic Mike's Blu-ray debut, though, almost compensates for its minimal visual shortcomings. Yeah, the incessant bass tracks during dance sequences can get a little much - you might grab your remote once or twice - but technically, this lossless track is a stunner, showcasing panoramic fidelity and exciting surround presence. Dialogue is audible throughout, atmospherics are lush and immersive, effects are crisp and well-defined - all around a top-notch track.
French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 and English Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks are included, as are English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles.
