Video: How Does the Disc Look?
Dark Shadows is, to be honest, an often ugly-looking film, but in that capacity this 1.78:1 1080p transfer serves it to a T. Contrast is especially accomplished, with black levels staying inky and consistent throughout the film, as well. Color accuracy appears to be appropriate - flesh tones and the occasional vivid hue balance nicely - and edge enhancement isn't an issue. Banding and aliasing pop up now and then, but it's never enough to fully distract.
Audio: How Does the Disc Sound?
The film is equally simplistic in terms of its sound design, but this DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound mix presented Dark Shadows with excellent lossless sheen. Dialogue is audible and crisp from start to finish, and the movie's oddball musical score exploits a panoramic fidelity with stunning success. Surrounds kick in every once in a while, as well, lending an air of envelopment to the track that serves it well. Straightforward, but successful, all in all.
French, Spanish, and Portuguese Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes are included, as are English SDH, French, Spanish, and Portuguese subtitles.
