One of the Restainos' dearest family friends cites Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman as her favorite television show in the history of the medium, so I'll channel her in terms of this review in order to figure out whether this newly-repackaged Complete Series set is worth its asking price (this writer finds the show endearing in some regards, but to be perfectly frank, a little Dr. Quinn goes a long way for me).

The fact of the matter is that this megaset is the same monster edition as its previous release, only with new packaging. There are no new bonuses to mention, and the transfers afforded all 42 (!) discs here are identical to those on that earlier title. This set houses all six seasons of the show, plus two feature-length movies that shed light on all this Medicine Woman.

The show itself is old-fashioned television to a T: Dr. Michaela Quinn (Jane Seymour) takes off from her 'normal' life in Boston to seek adventure on western terrain, picking up a new family - with help from Fabio-looking husband Bryon Sully (Joe Lando) - on the way. Each adventure that befalls Quinn is relatively similar to the last - there's no narrative rocket science happening here - but for the same reason Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven were successful, if you find yourself enjoying the wavelength of the series, it provides quite a bit of lovely boob tube escapism.

That being said, this Complete Series set - while impressive in scope and size - offers nothing new in terms of the Dr. Quinn universe. If you loved the show and already have the set from its previous incarnation, there's no need to rebuy, but if you've wanted the show and never got around to picking it up, now you have extra incentive: The only changes between this edition and the last one is packaging and price (this one's quite a bit cheaper).
