The Video: How Does The Disc Look?
24 is presented in 1.78:1 1080p transfers here, and the results are...okay. The thing that I really had trouble getting around is the fact that there is a ton of compression artifacting to mention here. I know that most transfers have a few examples of this here and there, but 24: Season 7 has too much of it - it's prevalent enough to be distracting. For the most part, everything else is laudable - black levels are fine, finely detailed textures come across cleanly - but for a high-definition of this set to have so much artifacting is definitely worthy of a demerit. Regardless of your sensibilities toward the show dramatically, it deserves more than this.
The Audio: How Does The Disc Sound?
This is certainly complemented, though, by absolutely rip-roarin' DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound mixes. These soundtracks are rich, loud, rowdy and wildly enveloping experiences. The rear soundstage is very aggressive with many discrete surround effects (such as helicopters circling from speaker to speaker, gunplay, screaming from every which-way), and dialogue is always perfectly clear, even when it shifts directionally across the front soundstage during the many split-screen scenes. The show's music has a nice presence, as well. This writer will continue to moan and bitch about the video presence 24: Season 7 has on Blu-ray, but these mixes very nearly make up for it.
English SDH, Spanish and French subtitles are included.
