JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK IN THE
WATER...
JAWS 2
FROM UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOME VIDEO ON MAY 22, 2001
Universal City, California, March 8, 2001 - Just
when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Universal Studios
Home Video will release Jaws 2, the gripping sequel to the
classic Jaws, on VHS and DVD on May 22, 2001. The VHS Special Edition,
containing a 10-minute featurette about the making of the film, is priced
at $14.98 suggested retail and the pre-order close is May 1, 2001.
The DVD release, available at $26.98 SRP, includes the
"Making Of" featurette, a documentary, deleted scenes, production
notes, talent bios, the original theatrical trailer, storyboards, and
shark facts. Pre-order close is April, 17 2001.
An ideal addition to fans seeking to augment their Jaws
collection, Jaws 2 was released in 1978 following the
1975 blockbuster success of Steven Spielberg's original Jaws, and
stars three of the original cast members -- Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary
and Murray Hamilton. Jaws 2 also proved popular with audiences,
earning over $102 million at the boxoffice domestically. Directed by Jeannot
Szwarc (Somewhere in Time, Bug, Supergirl) and featuring the music
of John Williams, the film's memorable shark sequences again proved to
be the most riveting and suspenseful scenes, even in the wake of strong
expectations based on the first film. Carl Gottlieb, who co-wrote the
original Jaws with author Peter Benchley, once again shared screenplay
credit with Howard Sackler for the sequel.
Universal Studios Home Video will support the release
of Jaws 2 with a multi-million dollar advertising campaign
including TV and radio advertising in the top 15 DVD markets (New York,
Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington
DC, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, Houston, Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta and
Seattle). Additional advertising includes local cable on Discovery, MTV,
TBS, TNT, ESPN, Sci-Fi Channel, Comedy Central and F/X. National print
ads will appear in Entertainment Weekly and Sound & Vision
Magazine.
Synopsis
After four years of peace and quiet, another killer Great White Shark
appears. A series of boating accidents and mysterious incidents have convinced
Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) that another Great White has come to Amity
Island. He struggles to convince the town officials that another shark
is out there, but they refuse to believe him and he loses his job in the
process. Meanwhile, more boating accidents occur and when Chief Brody's
two sons go out sailing with friends, he has to reach them before the
shark does.
