GLENDALE, CA -- Feb. 21, 2001 -- Nominated for four
Academy Awards including two Best Supporting Actress nods
(Kate Hudson, Frances McDormand) and Best Original Screenplay
(Cameron Crowe), one of the year's most critically-acclaimed
films and Golden Globe winner for Best Picture (Musical or
Comedy) and Best Supporting Actress (Kate Hudson), Almost
Famous debuts on VHS and DVD March 13. The VHS is available
to rent and the DVD is ownably priced for as low as $20.00.
From DreamWorks and writer/director Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire),
Almost Famous is a humorously poignant coming of age story
set against a backdrop of rock 'n roll and featuring breakout
performances from Hollywood's hottest young talent, Billy
Crudup (Jesus' Son, Waking The Dead, Sleepers), Golden Globe
winner Kate Hudson (200 Cigarettes, Dr. T and The Women),
and Patrick Fugit ("Touched By An Angel," "Promised
Land"), along with Academy Award" winning actress
Frances McDormand (Fargo). Presented with DTS and Dolby Digital
sound on the same disc, the DVD features a vast array of bonus
material including seven original Rolling Stone articles from
the 1970s penned by Cameron Crowe, a "Fever Dog"
music video, an insightful behind-the-scenes program, and
much more. DreamWorks also announced that the studio will
work with Cameron Crowe to produce a DVD featuring a director's
cut of Almost Famous in the near future.
"I am so excited that more people will have the chance
to see the definitive theatrical version of Almost Famous
on DVD and VHS on March 13th," said Cameron Crowe. "The
DVD contains bonus material which greatly complement the film.
Since I can't let go of Almost Famous, I can't wait to create
my hand-made director's cut version of the film as soon as
I finish filming Vanilla Sky. In keeping with the spirit of
the film, the director's cut version will contain lots of
other extras."
Almost Famous has been a critic's darling receiving kudos
by the Boston Society Of Film Critics for Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Supporting Actress (McDormand) and Best Screenplay;
Los Angeles Film Critics Association for Best Supporting Actress
(McDormand); and the Broadcast Film Critics Association for
Best Supporting Actress (McDormand), Best Original Screenplay
and Breakthrough Performance for Kate Hudson. Almost Famous
also landed on many major media outlet's Top Ten Lists including
Entertainment Weekly, Roger Ebert and Rolling Stone.
ALMOST FAMOUS DVD FEATURES
Hailed as "the best rock and roll movie ever," (Joel Siegel,
"Good Morning America") the Almost Famous DVD is loaded with
value-added bonus programming including seven of Cameron Crowe's famed
Rolling Stone interviews with some of rock's most prolific artists such
as Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, Peter Frampton, and Fleetwood Mac.
Featuring DTS and Dolby Digital sound on the same disc, the DVD also will
include a "Fever Dog" music video performed by the film's fictional
band Stillwater, compelling behind-the-scenes featurette, production notes,
cast and crew bios, and more.
ALMOST FAMOUS SYNOPSIS
The guys of Stillwater have the sound, they have the look,
and Rolling Stone magazine wants their story. For young reporter
William Miller, it's the opportunity of a lifetime as he hits
the road with his favorite band and discovers the price of
