To fully understand and appreciate Road Trip, one must remember that all it asks are some simple, if eternally unanswered, questions. If you're in a committed relationship, is it really cheating if you have sex with someone in a different area code? Or if you don't exactly remember it because you were too wasted, did it ever really take place? Or how about if you cheat with two people, it shouldn't count, because they cancel each other out, right?

Just ask poor Josh. Unknowingly videotaped while "sorta cheating" on his girlfriend, who's attending another college, the incriminating evidence inadvertently gets mailed off. In a panic, soon Josh and his buddies take off to retrieve the wayward videotape on the quintessential college experience, the "Road Trip." Harking back to the classic comedies of yesteryear (okay, well, the late 70's and early 80's), Road Trip is vulgar, gratuitous, often outrageous but always hilarious. If you survived college, or just dreamed of it, Road Trip is your movie!

The college tradition

Road Trip marks the directorial debut of Todd Phillips, and the latest comedy from mega-successful producer Ivan Reitman. A graduate of the prestigious NYU film school, Phillips wasted no time in making a name for himself, directing the acclaimed documentary "Hated" about notorious musician GG Allin, which received a theatrical release. Phillips then followed that up with another documentary and critical success, Frat House. This brought him to the attention of Reitman, and along with Screenwriter Scot Armstrong, Road Trip was born.

Only 28 years old and possessing the enthusiasm of someone half his age, Phillips was one of the funniest and most down-to-earth interviewees we've had the pleasure of talking to here at DVDFILE. Road Trip harks back to our beloved adolescent comedies of the 80's, and we can't wait to see what he comes up with next. If you missed the film in the theaters and have a taste for collegiate comedy, then don't let the trip pass you by on DVD...
