A hit when first released in the winter of 2000, Pitch Black is one of the few modern thrillers that is able to affectionately hark back to the sci-fi/horror classics of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's, like ALIEN, The Thing and Forbidden Planet, yet still bring fresh elements and genuine suspense to the mix. Boasting a unique, arresting visual style and thrill-a-minute pace, along with Twohy's first film, The Arrival, the success of Pitch Black has helped make him one of the most respected filmmakers working in the genre today. The DVD Released on October 24 by Universal Home Video, Pitch Black is available in two separate versions, R-Rated and Unrated. But unlike most such releases, the unrated version of Pitch Black doesn't boast extra gore or sexuality; rather, it expands the characters and some early scenes, bring an added depth sacrificed for running time in the original theatrical version. Also boasting two screen-specific audio commentaries with Twohy, his cast and the special effects team and a making-of featurette, Pitch Black is a visually and sonically arresting DVD. To celebrate the DVD release, we were able to chat with Mr. Twohy about the film, the DVD and his interest in sci-fi and horror filmmaking.
