Lights! Camera! Barbra! Winner of multiple Oscar nominations
and the world's introduction to instant megastar Barbra
Streisand, Funny Girl remains a sparkling gem of 60's
screen comedy and one of the all-time great classic Hollywood
musicals.
Yet it is unfortunate that unless the film has the stature
of a Citizen Kane, Vertigo, or Lawrence Of Arabia, a restoration
as glowing as the one Funny Girl has just received is
given the scant publicity that it has. But with an image
so sparkling - and a new DVD just out from Columbia TriStar
to prove it - hopefully we can change that.
We chatted recently with Grover Crisp, Vice President
of Asset Management & Film Restoration for Sony Pictures
Entertainment about the three-year restoration. From repairing
an often painfully damaged negative to remixing the soundtrack
- and even a visit from Babs herself - do you dare stare
in the face of 10-feet tall, fully restored Barbra Streisand!?
