Some release date updates to announce: Buena Vista has postponed their BD release of Dumbo a year (!) - the film is now slated to arrive on BD in February 2011. Beauty and the Beast and the two Fantasia films are still slated to arrive on Blu-ray Disc later this year.

Flipper Format?
Universal has announced the "Flipper" format, whereby providing a blu-ray on one side and a dvd on the other. Some may look at this as a plus, but I question it. From a marketing standpoint there is good and bad; people will appreciate the generosity on U's part (similar to Disney - offering both formats for one price) if the price is not jacked up. Purists may be disconted without having a nice image provided on the disc. As we have discovered with most blu-rays, the nice souvenir booklet or leaflet has been discarded. Warner Brothers gave us a big plus with their booklets attached. Also, with info on both sides the consumer will need to be extra careful with these discs. Some people arbitrarily lay the title of their disc(s) on a table (as they do with cds). This could cause accidents having to replace a disc sooner. Of course, this could also lead to more sales for the big U, but not exactly convenient for us the consumer. I prefer just getting the extra dvd. It's a minor cost for the profit companies make on dvd sales.
