More television season sets coming to DVD and Blu-ray Disc

Summit Home Entertainment will release Penelope on 15 July. This bizarre romantic comedy starring Christina Ricci as a girl with an unfortunately-shaped nose will arrive on DVD with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, as well as a making-of featurette. SRP is $25.99.
















Warner has announced plans to release The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries: Season One on 9 September. This first installment of the hit animated show starring everybody’s favorite cat and mouse will house thirteen episodes that will be presented in 1.33:1 format and will house stereo sound mixes. No bonuses have been announced for this release. SRP is $19.97.




The Oscar-nominated animated film Persepolis is headed to DVD from Sony on 24 June. Featuring the voice talents of cinematic icon Catherin Deneuve, the film will be presented on DVD with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, as well as a selective commentary, two featurettes and some animated scene comparisons. SRP is $29.95.
















Warner has announced the 16 September DVD release of Chuck: The Complete First Season. This successful new NBC action series starring Zachary Levi will arrive on DVD with anamorphic widescreen transfers Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, some deleted scenes, a pair of featurettes, some webisodes, a gag reel and a demo of EA Sports’ Madden NFL 09 for the Xbox. SRP is $39.98.
















Warner and BBC have announced release plans for Spaced: The Complete Series. This 3-disc release will hit shelves on 22 July, and the Simon Pegg/Jessica Stevenson series will come to DVD along with commentaries (with such names as Quentin Tarantino, Matt Stone and Diablo Cody!), a feature-length documentary, a slate of featurettes, a blooper reel, deleted scenes, a trivia track, a stills gallery, some trailers and a video for “Spaced Jam” by Osymyso. SRP is $49.98.














We have more details on Disney’s 15 July DVD release of College Road Trip. This Martin Lawrence/Raven-Symone comedy will hit the format with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, commentaries with director Roger Kumble, Raven and screenwriters Emi Mochizuki and Carrie Evans, a set of deleted scenes (with optional Kumble commentary), two featurettes, a “Double Dutch Bus” music video and a blooper reel. SRP is $29.99.















The blackjack drama/romance 21 is headed to DVD from Sony on 22 July. Starring Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey, the film will arrive in both single- and double-disc editions. Each will house an anamorphic widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, and the 2-discer will also house a commentary track with director Robert Luketic and three featurettes. SRP for each set is TBD.
















We also have more details on the Sony Blu-ray Disc release of In the Line of Fire, slated to be released on 1 July. This Clint Eastwood/John Malkovich thriller will arrive on high-def with a 2.40:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix, a commentary with director Wolfgang Petersen, four featurettes and a set of deleted scenes. SRP is $28.95.
















We have final specs for New Line’s 29 July Blu-ray Disc release of Dark City: Director’s Cut. This cult-favorite science-fiction thriller from Alex Proyas will arrive on high-def with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a lossless 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound mix, three commentaries (with Proyas and writers Lem Dobbs and David S. Goyer on one; D.P. Dariusz Wolski and production designer Patrick Tatopoulous on another; and a third with critic Roger Ebert) as well as two featurettes, an introduction to the film from Proyas, some text essays, a fact track, a review of the film by Neil Gaiman and the film’s theatrical trailer. SRP is $34.99.












Universal will release Law &Order: Special Victims Unit – The Seventh Year on 29 July. This latest installment of the massively popular NBC series starring Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay will arrive on DVD with anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, but without any bonus features. SRP is $59.98.
















Paramount is readying a 1 July Blu-ray Disc release of Drillbit Taylor. This Owen Wilson comedy will arrive on high-def with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix, a commentary with director Steven Brill, screenwriter Kristofor Brown and actors Troy Gentile, Nate Hartley and David Dorfman, as well as a set of featurettes, some deleted scenes and a blooper reel. SRP is TBD.















We’re getting a new edition of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown from Warner on 2 September. This remastered re-release of the classic Peanuts adventure will of course have a 1.33:1 transfer and a mono sound mix, and will also house an additional episode (entitled It’s Magic, Charlie Brown). SRP is $19.98.

















Dexter: The Complete Second Season is headed to DVD from Paramount on 19 August. This grisly yet addictive TV drama starring Michael C. Hall will arrive on DVD with anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, two bonus episodes of the Showtime series Brotherhood, as well as a featurette. SRP is $39.98.
















Universal is preparing a 22 July DVD release of Las Vegas: Season Five. This Tom Selleck/Josh Duhamel sin city drama series will have its latest season hit DVD with anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, two featurettes, some NBC.com webcasts and a blooper reel. SRP is $59.98.


















We have more specs for Paramount’s 12 August DVD release of South Park: The Complete Eleventh Season. This newest DVD installment of the groundbreaking series will arrive on the format with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo sound mixes, as well as four featurettes showcasing other Comedy Central shows. SRP is $39.99.

















The apocalyptic thriller Doomsday is headed to DVD from Universal on 29 July. Starring Bob Hoskins and Alexander Siddig, the actioner will hit DVD with both its rated and unrated cuts with 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, as well as a commentary with director Neil Marshall and actors Sean Pertwee, Darren Morfitt, Rick Warden and Les Simpson, and three featurettes. SRP is $29.98.















We have final specs for the 15 July Lionsgate Blu-ray Disc release of The Bank Job. This Jason Statham action flick will arrive on high-def with a 1080p transfer, a PCM 7.1 sound mix, six featurettes, some deleted scenes, and a ‘digital copy’ option. SRP is $39.98.

















Warner will release One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest on Blu-ray Disc on 15 July. This Oscar-winning Jack Nicholson drama will hit high-def with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix (no word on lossless), a commentary with director Milos Forman and producers Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz, some bonus footage, a making-of documentary and the film’s original trailer. SRP is $34.99.















Lionsgate has announced that they will be releasing Universal Soldier in August or September. We don’t have anything in terms of official street dates, specs or bonuses, but we wanted to let you know that the Jean-Claude Van Damme thriller was at the very least en route to Blu-ray Disc. Stay tuned…




Oliver Stone’s The Doors is coming to Blu-ray Disc from Lionsgate. This acclaimed Val Kilmer film will arrive on high-def with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a lossless 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound mix, a commentary track with Stone, a set of featurettes and some deleted scenes. SRP is $29.99.

















Warner is releasing The Legend of the Shadowless Sword on 12 August. This Lee Seo Jin martial arts epic will arrive on DVD with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, a set of character introductions, a few interviews, a music video and a stills gallery. SRP is $19.97.




26 August will bring the Blu-ray Disc release of Uwe Boll’s Postal from UMVD. We don’t have complete specs for this bizarr-o Zack Ward vehicle, but we’ll keep you updated as more news comes in. SRP is $34.98.


















Genius Products will release The Killing Gene on DVD on 12 August. This creepy thriller starring Stellan Skarsgard and Selma Blair will arrive on DVD with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, a set of deleted scenes, two featurettes, and a collection of interviews. SRP is $19.97.

















Universal is preparing a 26 August DVD release for the new edition of Brotherhood of the Wolf. This hit French action flick from 2001 will arrive on this new release with a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, as well as a set of bonus features (we know there will be some deleted scenes, but the full extras line-up is TBD. We’ll keep you updated). SRP is $19.98.















Lionsgate will release Belly on Blu-ray Disc on 12 August. This star-studded crime drama starring Nas, DMX and Method Man will hit high-def with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master Audio sound mix, a commentary with director Hype Williams, a few featurettes, a deleted scenes and a music video for “Grand Finale”. SRP is $29.99.
















Genius Products will release Superhero Movie: Extended Edition on 8 July. This hit comedy spoof will arrive on DVD with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, a commentary with director Craig Mazin and producers David Zucker and Robert K. Weiss, a slate of deleted scenes and two featurettes. SRP is $29.95.
















Paramount will release Reno 911: The Complete Fifth Season on 15 July. This hit Comedy Central series starring Thomas Lennon and a team of lovably inept cops will find its fifth season hitting DVD with 1.33:1 transfer and stereo sound mixes, as well as a few commentary tracks with cast and crew members, some deleted scenes, five featurettes, and a collection of extended promos for other Comedy Central shows. SRP is $39.99.




Jericho: The Complete Series is headed to DVD from Paramount on 17 June. This unfortunately-cancelled end-of-the-world TV series starring Skeet Ulrich will get a series-long release on this set with anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, select commentary tracks with Dan Shotz and Jon Steinberg, a set of featurettes, interviews, and some deleted scenes. SRP is $84.99.














Fox has announced plans to release Shutter on Blu-ray Disc on 15 July. This horror film will arrive on high-def with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix, a commentary with producer Alex Sundell, screenwriter Luke Dawson and actress Rachael Taylor, five featurettes, a set of deleted scenes, and Blu-ray exclusive featurettes (two of them) and three bonus deleted scenes. SRP is $39.98.















Genius Products will release Lonesome Dove on Blu-ray Disc on 5 August. This high-def debut of the absolutely classic Robert Duvall/Tommy Lee Jones western miniseries will contain a 1080p transfer, four featurettes, and a stills gallery (audio specs are TBD). SRP is $39.92.
 



Paramount will release NCIS: The Fifth Season on 26 August. This hit Mark Harmon-led crime drama series will hit DVD with anamorphic transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, but as far as we know, this set won’t include any bonuses. We’ll let you know if that changes. SRP is $59.98.

















The Secret is coming to DVD from Image Entertainment on 12 August. This thriller starring David Duchovny and Lili Taylor will arrive on DVD with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, two featurettes and the film’s trailer. SRP is $27.98.




The Adam Carolla comedy The Hammer is coming to DVD from Genius Products and The Weinstein Company on 24 June. The yuk-fest will arrive on the format with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, a commentary track with director Charles Herman-Wurmfeld, some deleted scenes and a blooper reel. SRP is $19.97.
















We have early word that Warner is readying a 9 September Blu-ray Disc release of Smallville: The Complete Seventh Season. This high-def follow-up to last year’s Season Six set (also release on Blu-ray) will house 1080p transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, as well as two featurettes and some Smallville Legends Mobisodes. SRP is $79.98.















We have final specs for New Line’s Blu-ray Disc release of Be Kind Rewind, slated to hit shelves on 10 June. The Jack Black/Mos Def comedy will hit high-def with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound mix, five featurettes, a collection of Black and Mos’ “Sweded” theme songs, and a complete Fats Waller biopic. SRP is $35.99.
