Warner prepping some interesting BDs

Image Entertainment will release a Blu-ray Disc edition of Assault on Precinct 13 on 2 December. This John Carpenter cult favorite will arrive with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer but audio specs and bonus features (if any) have yet to be confirmed. SRP is $29.99.


















MTI has announced release plans for Blood Wars, slated to hit shelves on 11 November. This actioner with Tony Todd and C. Thomas Howell will arrive on DVD with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a making-of featurette, and the film’s trailer. SRP is $24.95.

















We have early word that Warner has a few films being prepared for Blu-ray Disc release early next year. It’s too soon for specs, release dates, or SRPs, but we have it on good authority that The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Matrix (as a standalone release), Amadeus , and King Kong are all coming. We’ll let you know as more info is learned.












MVD will release Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter on Blu-ray Disc on 28 October. This zany musical will arrive with a 1080p transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $19.95.


















The direct-to-video Without a Paddle: Nature’s Calling is headed to Blu-ray Disc from Paramount on 13 January. This sequel to the Seth Green comedy will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, and a slate of extras that have yet to be confirmed. SRP is also TBD.




Paramount has announced final specs for their 27 January Blu-ray Disc release of Zodiac. This exceptional thriller from David Fincher will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 track, and all the bonuses from the film’s HD DVD release: two commentaries, a set of featurettes, a previsualization gallery, and the film’s trailer. SRP is TBD.

















MVD will release Blackalicioius: 4/20 Live in Seattle on Blu-ray Disc on 28 October. This concert from the hit soul/hip-hop band filmed at the Showbox Theatre in Seattle will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a making-of featurette, and a music video. SRP is $19.95.


















Paramount will release Dexter: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray Disc on 6 January. This first season of the hit Michael C. Hall series will arrive with 1.78:1 1080p transfers, Dolby TrueHD 5.1 tracks, two commentary tracks, and a featurette. SRP is TBD.


















Warner will release The Notebook on Blu-ray Disc on 20 January. This fan-adored romance starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, and a slate of bonuses that have yet to be confirmed. SRP is $39.99.


















The creepy-crawly thriller Cannibal Taboo is headed to Blu-ray Disc from MVD on 28 October. This horror flick starring Ashlie Rhey and Paul Logan will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a stereo track, a making-of featurette, some filmographies, the film’s original script as text, and the movie’s trailer. SRP is $24.95.

















Blue Underground has announced a 27 January Blu-ray Disc release of Dead & Buried. This cult favorite horror flick will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio track, three commentary tracks, three featurettes, and a set of trailers. SRP is $34.95.


















Lionsgate has announced plans to release Disaster Movie on Blu-ray Disc on 6 January. This spoof hit will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a commentary track (participants TBD), a handful of making-of featurettes, and a sing-a-long subtitle track (audio specs are also TBD). SRP is $39.99.


















We have more specs for Paramount’s Blu-ray Disc release of Tropic Thunder, due on 18 November. This Ben Stiller and Robert Downey, Jr. hit comedy will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, a cast commentary track (participants TBD), a blooper reel, some deleted scenes, a making-of mockumentary, and some behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage. SRP is still TBD.

















11 November will bring the release of Son of the Beach: Volume 2 from Shout Factory. This second installation of the hilarious comedy series will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo tracks, a handful of commentaries from show participants, some introductions from Notch Johnson, some featurettes, and a set of cast auditions. SRP is $39.99.

















Lionsgate will release Bangkok Dangerous on Blu-ray Disc on 9 January. This recent Nicolas Cage actioner will arrive with a 1080p transfer, either a DTS-HD 5.1 or 7.1 track, and some bonus features that are still TBD. SRP is $39.99.


















We have final specs for Warner’s 11 November Blu-ray Disc release of JFK. This Oliver Stone drama starring Kevin Costner will arrive with a 2.40:1 1080p transfer, a commentary by Stone, three featurettes, a new documentary (Behind the Story), some deleted scenes with optional Stone commentary, and some trailers. SRP is $34.99.

















We have more information on the upcoming HBO release of Get Smart: The Complete Series, slated to hit shelves on 4 November. This 25-DVD collection of every episode of the beloved Don Adams series will arrive with 1.33: transfers and mono tracks, some bloopers, a set of interviews with Buck Henry and Barbara Feldon, some rare Get Smart footage, and a handful of commentary tracks with Mel Brooks and various other participants. SRP is $199.95.
















PorchLight Home Entetainment will release Dear Me: A Blogger’s Tale on 4 November. This dramedy starring Dana Delaney and Dan Lauria will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary by producer Steven Weiss-Smith and director Mike Feifer, some deleted scenes, a gag reel, some featurettes, a storyboard gallery, and the film’s trailer. 18 November will bring the Blu-ray Disc release of Encounters at the End of the World from Image Entertainment. This acclaimed Werner Herzog documentary will arrive with a 1.78:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary by Herzog, Henry Kaiser, and Peter Zeitlinger, seven featurettes, and the film’s theatrical trailer. SRP is $35.98.

















Final specs have been made available for the 18 November Blu-ray Disc release of Heathers from Anchor Bay. This classic comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 Lossless Master Audio track, a commentary track with director Michael Lahmann, writer Daniel Waters and producer Denise Di Novi, a pair of making-of documentaries, a DVD-ROM script of the film’s original ending, and the movie’s theatrical trailer. We have learned the details of the final specs for Anchor Bay’s 28 October Blu-ray Disc release of Dead Space: Downfall. This anime feature will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, an isolated Dolby Digital 5.1 track of the film’s score, a deleted scenes, some cheat codes for the corresponding EA game, and some trailers. SRP is $26.97.

















Final specs have been released for HBO’s 9 December edition of The Wire: The Complete Series. This Peabody-winning series – one of the most critically-acclaimed ever – will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers, Dolby Surround tracks, three prequels to the series, and a blooper reel. PorchLight Home Entertainment has announced release plans for Together Again for the First Time, slated to arrive on DVD on 28 October. This holiday comedy/drama starring Julia Duffy and David Ogden Stiers will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, some deleted scenes, a blooper reel, and some making-of footage. SRP is $24.98.

















Final specs have been made available for HBO’s 11 November Blu-ray Disc release of Band of Brothers. This acclaimed war miniseries based on Stephen Ambrose’s book will arrive with 1080p transfers, an 80-minute documentary, two featurettes, a set of Ron Livingston’s Video Diaries, and BD-exclusive goodies: a picture-in-picture commentary by Easy Company veterans and an In the Field With the Men of Easy Company interactive field guide. SRP is $99.98.
















11 November will bring the DVD release of the Warner Bros. and the Homefront Collection. Included are three box-office hits from the studio’s WWII era: Irving Berlin’s This Is The Army, Thank Your Lucky Stars, and Hollywood Canteen. They will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono tracks, Warner’s Night at the Movies goodies, and a commentary track on This Is the Army from film scholars Drew Casper and Joan Leslie. Paramount has announced final details for the 21 October Blu-ray Disc release of Sweeney Todd. This Oscar-nominated Tim Burton musical will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, eleven featurettes, a stills gallery, and the film’s trailer. SRP is $39.99.


















We have final specs for Warner’s Quo Vadis: Special Edition DVD release on 11 November. This epic spectacle will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer, a stereo track, a film historian commentary track, a making-of featurette, and some trailers. SRP is $22.95.


















21 October will bring the MTI Home Video release of Forfeit. This heist caper starring Billy Burke and Wayne Knight will arrive with a non-anamorphic letterbox transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a filmmaker commentary track, a making-of featurette, some cast and crew biographies, and a set of trailers. SRP is $24.95.

















More details have been announced for the 4 November Blu-ray Disc edition of A Christmas Story from Warner Home Video. This holiday classic starring Peter Billingsley will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary by Billingsley and director Bob Clark, some audio readings from writer Jean Shepard, three featurettes, two set-top trivia games, and the film’s theatrical trailer. SRP is $39.95.
















Full specs are now available for Warner’s 28 October Blu-ray Disc release of The Polar Express. This animated hit featuring Tom Hanks will arrive in both 2-D and 3-D with a 1080p transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, some making-of featurettes, a music video, and a deleted song. SRP is $34.98.

















Final specs have been announced for the 2 December Blu-ray Disc release of The Messenger: The Story Of Joan of Arc from Sony. This Milla Jovovich epic will arrive with a 2.40:1 1080p transfer and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track. No bonus features will be included. SRP is $28.95.


















Sony and The Food Network have announced plans to release Meals on DVD: Shop, Watch, Cook! on 18 November. This DVD will feature demonstrations and downloadable recipes from some of The Food Network’s top chefs and will be available at grocery stores with a low purchase price of $7.99 SRP. 

















The Mask is coming to Blu-ray Disc on 9 December from Warner. This special-effects-laden blockbuster starring Jim Carrey will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, a commentary track by director Charles Russell, co-chairman of New Line Cinema Bob Shaye, writer Mike Werb, executive producer Mike Richardson, producer Bob Engelman, ILM VFX supervisor Scott Squires, animation supervisor Tom Bertino, and cinematographer John Leonetti, a second commentary just with Russell, four featurettes, two deleted scenes (with director commentary), and the film’s trailer. Final specs have been released for MGM’s 20 January Blu-ray Disc release of This is Spinal Tap. This comedy classic will arrive with a 1.78:1 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, three commentary tracks (one from Spinal Tap in character; one from Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer out of character; and another with director Rob Reiner, producer Karen Murphy, and editors Robert Leighton and Kent Beyda), some deleted scenes, two featurettes, four music videos, some trailers, some Rock and Rolls commercials, and a new avatar-creating set-top game (BD-exclusive). 23 December will bring the Blu-ray Disc release of The House Bunny from Sony. This successful Anna Faris comedy will arrive with a 2.40:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, no fewer than thirteen featurettes, an “I Know What Boys Like” music video, and some deleted scenes. SRP is $28.96.
