New releases on the way

Sony Music has announced an 18 November Blu-ray Disc release of Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley. This killer set from Dave Grohl and crew will arrive with a 1080p transfer, but audio specs and bonus features have yet to be determined. SRP is $29.98.

 
















Fox has announced early details for a Blu-ray Disc release of Donnie Darko, slated to hit shelves on 10 February. This cult classic starring Jake Gyllenhaal will arrive with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer and a DTS-HD Master 5.1 track. Bonuses will likely mirror those on the film’s most recent DVD release, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed. SRP is $34.99.

















More details have been made available for Universal’s 16 December Blu-ray Disc release of Mamma Mia!. This hit musical starring Meryl Streep and Colin Firty will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, some U-Control options, a sing-along subtitle track, some deleted scenes, bloopers, a slate of featurettes, a commentary track by director Phyllida Lloyd, and some BD-Live options (including an opportunity for viewers to record and share their own commentaries for the film). The SRP is $39.98.















Fox will release The French Connection on Blu-ray Disc on 20 January, and will follow that up with a high definition release of The French Connection 2 on 24 February. This Oscar-winning actioner and its sequel will both arrive with 2.35:1 1080p transfers and DTS-HD 5.1 tracks. Each release’s bonus slate has yet to be determined. SRP for each title is $34.99.

















Universal will release Death Race on Blu-ray Disc on 23 December. This Jason Statham and Joan Allen remake of the ‘70s classic will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, some exclusive BD-Live features, and a bonus slate and SRP that have yet to be announced.


















Well Go USA has announced a 27 January Blu-ray Disc release of Stomp Live. This three-part edition of the hit Broadway touring revue will arrive with a 1080p transfer. Audio specs and the disc’s bonus slate are still undetermined. SRP is $34.98.


















We have early word that Fox will release Office Space on Blu-ray Disc on 3 February. This cult-favorite comedy from Beavis & Butt-head creator Mike Judge will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer and a DTS-HD 5.1 track. Bonus features are still TBD. SRP is $34.99.


















Sony will release The Wackness on 6 January. This indie hit starring Ben Kingsley and Famke Janssen will arrive with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary by director Jonathan Levine and actor Josh Peck, a set of featurettes, and some deleted scenes. SRP is $28.96.


















Final specs have been announced for Sony’s 30 December Blu-ray Disc release of Resident Evil: Degeneration. This CGI-animated addition to the popular Resident Evil franchise will arrive with a 1.78:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, three featurettes, some trailers, a voice talent blooper reel, and two BD-exclusive goodies: a picture-in-picture BonusView option, and a trivia track. SRP is $39.95.
















Early details have been released for Sony’s 6 January release of Pineapple Express. This Seth Rogen and James Franco stoner comedy will arrive with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary track (participants TBD), some deleted scenes, a blooper reel, and a large collection of featurettes. SRP is TBD.

















Victory Multimedia will release a Blu-ray Disc edition of Climbing Your Way Down the Corporate Ladder on 13 January. This comedy starring Tony Sirico (Paulie from The Sopranos) will arrive with a 1080p transfer, but audio specs and the release’s bonus slate are still TBD. SRP is $34.98.




We now have full specs for Warner’s 10 February Blu-ray Disc release of The History of Violence. This Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris thriller will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, a commentary by director David Cronenberg, three featurettes, some deleted scenes, and the film’s theatrical trailer. SRP is $28.99.

















We have more specs on Fox’s 13 January Blu-ray Disc release of Boondock Saints. This actioner cult classic will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, a pair of commentaries (one with director Troy Duffy, the other with actor Billy Connolly), a set of deleted scenes, and some trailers. SRP is $34.99.


















The horror flick Mirrors is coming to Blu-ray Disc from Fox on 13 January. This Kiefer Sutherland creep-fest will arrive with a 2.40:1 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, a set of featurettes, some deleted scenes (with optional commentary by director Alexandre Aja), an animated storyboard sequence, and some BD-exclusive material: an additional featurette, and a picture-in-picture commentary by Aja and writer Gregory Levasseur, and some picture-in-picture storyboard comparisons. SRP is $39.99.















We have early word that Fox is readying a 14 April Blu-ray Disc release of The Seven Year Itch. This iconic comedy starring Marilyn Monroe will arrive with a 1080p transfer, but audio specs and bonus features (if any) have yet to be announced. SRP is $34.95.


















We have early word that Universal is readying a 20 January release of The Rockford Files: Season Six. This final installment of the hit James Garner series will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono tracks. No bonus features will be included. SRP is $39.98.




Blue Underground has offered up early details for their Blu-ray Disc release of The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, scheduled to arrive in stores on 24 February. This Dario Argento horror film will arrive with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, 7.1 DTS-HD Master and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 tracks, a commentary by Alan Jones and Kim Newman, four featurettes, two trailers, and a set of TV spots. SRP is $34.95.

















The Weinstein Company and Genius Products have announced a 6 January Blu-ray Disc release of Superhero Movie. This successful spoof will arrive with a 1080p transfer, but audio specs and bonus features are as yet unconfirmed. SRP is $29.98.


















Paramount has announced plans to release Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan on 18 November. This look at the origins and rise the rap group will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer, a stereo track, four featurettes and a music video. SRP is $22.99.


















Image Entertainment will release a Blu-ray Disc edition of Ping Pong Playa on 6 January. This sports-themed picture will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master 5.1 track, and a slate of bonus features that has yet to be fully confirmed. SRP is $35.98.


















Warner will release The Shuttered Room and It! on 9 December. This horror double-feature featuring two of the ‘60s cheesiest and most enjoyable thrillers will arrive with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and mono tracks. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $19.98.
 

















Universal will release Burn After Reading on Blu-ray Disc on 23 December. This Coen Brothers film starring Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master 5.1 track, and three featurettes. SRP is $39.98.


















Fox has announced a 3 February Blu-ray Disc release of Little Miss Sunshine. This Oscar-winning comedy will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master 5.1 track, a commentary by directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, four featurettes, some deleted scenes, a stills gallery, and a music video. SRP is $34.95.


















We have final specs for Warner’s Blu-ray Disc release of The Women. This Debra Messing and Eva Mendes comedy will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, and two featurettes, and a set of deleted scenes. SRP is $34.95.


















Fox will release The Girls Next Door: Season Four on 27 January. This new installment of the hit Playboy reality series will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo tracks. No bonus features will be included. SRP is $29.98.




Here’s an interesting Blu-ray Disc development. The price for the 9 December Blu-ray Disc release of Lost: The Complete Fourth Season has dropped almost thirty dollars. The SRP of the HD set has fallen from $96.99 to $69.99. The set will still include 1080p transfers, PCM 5.1 tracks, a blooper reel, a set of commentaries, deleted scenes, and a handful of featurettes. Here’s to price slashes!
















Warner also has plans to release Chamber of Horrors and The Bride of Fu Manchu on 9 December. This horror double feature will arrive with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and mono tracks. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $19.98.


















You’re a Good Sport, Charlie Brown: Deluxe Edition is headed to DVD on 27 January from Warner. This DVD debut of the Emmy-winning Peanuts classic will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer, a stereo track, a bonus Peanuts episode (You’re the Greatest, Charlie Brown), and a featurette. SRP is $19.98.
 

















New Line and Warner have announced a 3 February DVD release of The Jason Slasher Collection. This trilogy contains Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, and Freddy vs. Jason (all with the same transfers and tracks they had on their last DVD release), and a $5 certificate off the admission ticket price for the new Friday the 13th remake this spring. SRP is $23.97.

















We have final specs for Warner’s 2 December Blu-ray Disc release of The Shawshank Redemption. This popular drama starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, a commentary by director Frank Darabont, four featurettes, a stills gallery, and the film’s trailer. SRP is $34.99.

















18 November will bring the DVD release of Hannah Montana: The Complete First Season from Buena Vista. This immensely popular Miley Cyrus series will find its debut season arriving with 1.33:1 transfers, stereo tracks, and three featurettes. SRP is $39.99.


















25 November will bring the DVD release of The Nutty Professor from The Weinstein Company and Genius Products. This animated sequel to the Jerry Lewis hit (featuring Lewis’ voice talents) will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a making-of featurette, and a stills gallery. SRP is $19.97.

















Anchor Bay is readying a 20 January release of Cold Prey. This hit Norwegian horror flick will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, and a slate of bonuses that have yet to be announced. SRP is $26.97.


















Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: Volume 1 – A Monster Catch is coming to DVD from Warner on 27 January. This DVD featuring four episodes from the first season of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo tracks. No bonus features will be included. SRP is $14.97.
