The spring warms the release schedule
 Buena Vista has announced a 27 January DVD release of Mary Poppins: 45th Anniversary Edition. This Julie Andrews/Dick Van Dyke classic will arrive with a 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a deleted song, a ton of featurettes, a bonus short, some stills galleries, a trivia track, a commentary by Andrews, Van Dyke, Karen Dotrice, and Richard Sherman, and an mp3 download of a song from the Broadway cast of Mary Poppins. SRP is $29.99. 24 March will bring the Blu-ray Disc release of Quantum of Solace from MGM. This latest James Bond film starring Daniel Craig will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, a music video for the film’s theme song, some trailers, and seven featurettes. SRP is $39.99. Paramount will release The Kite Runner on Blu-ray Disc on 24 March. This bold film interpretation of the bestselling novel will arrive with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, a commentary by director Marc Forster, Khaled Hosseini, and David Benioff, two featurettes, and the film’s trailer. SRP is $29.99. We have early word that LucasFilm is preparing a Blu-ray Disc release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season One in March or April. The episodes will be given 1080p transfers, but audio specs and supplements are still unconfirmed (though the studio has hinted that there will be quite a few supplements). SRP is also TBD. Sony will release The Grudge on Blu-ray Disc on 24 March. This Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle that spawned a successful horror franchise will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, two commentaries (one with Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi, Gellar, and other participants; another by director Takashi Shimizu, producer Taka Ichise, and actress Takako Fuji), deleted scenes (with optional commentary), some featurettes, and a pair of short films. SRP is $28.95. Warner will release Far From the Madding Crowd on DVD on 27 January. Starring Julie Christie and Terence Stamp, this film will arrive with a 2.20:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. No supplements will be included. SRP is $14.99. Passengers is headed to Blu-ray Disc from Paramount on 24 March. This Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson drama will arrive with a 2.40:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, two featurettes, some deleted scenes, and a commentary by director Rodrigo Garcia and Wilson. SRP is $39.95. Universal has announced a 3 March Blu-ray Disc debut for Brokeback Mountain. This Oscar-winning drama starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, and the featurettes found on its HD DVD release. SRP is $34.99. 27 January will bring the Warner release of Goodbye, Mr. Chips. This cult-adored remake starring Peter O’Toole and Petula Clark will arrive with a 2.20:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. No supplements will be included. SRP is $14.99. The Oscar-winning film The Silence of the Lambs is coming to Blu-ray Disc from MGM on 3 March. This iconic thriller starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, a ton of deleted scenes, some featurettes, a handful of documentaries, a blooper reel, some TV spots, and a few trailers. SRP is $34.99. Eagle Rock will release The Who: Live at the Isle of Wight on 24 February. This legendary concert featuring some of the rowdiest boys in the history of rock and roll will arrive with a 1080p transfer, two bonus tracks, and an interview with guitarist Pete Townsend (audio specs are TBD). SRP is $24.95. Waterloo Bridge is headed to DVD from Warner on 27 January. This Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor romance will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer and a mono track. No supplements will be included. SRP is $14.99. Genius Products and The Weinstein Company will release Zack and Miri Make a Porno on Blu-ray Disc on 3 February. This Kevin Smith comedy starring Seth Rogen will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a documentary, some deleted scenes, and a blooper reel, but audio specs are still unconfirmed. SRP is $34.95. No confirmed dates have been set, but we wanted to let you know that Disney and Buena Vista announced at CES some of its 2009 Blu-ray Disc plans. High profile titles include: Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Sin City and two Pixar titles, Monsters, Inc. and A Bug’s Life. Keep checking in with us and we’ll pass along official confirmations. Funimation has announced 10 February Blu-ray Disc releases for Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13 and Bojack Unbound. This popular anime will arrive with 1080p transfers, but audio specs and supplements (if any) haven’t yet been confirmed. SRP is $34.95. Warner will release The Yellow Rolls-Royce on DVD on 27 January. This madcap comedy starring Ingrid Bergman and Jeanne Moreau will arrive with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a stereo track. SRP is $14.99. 21 April will bring the Criterion release of Science is Fiction: 23 Films by Jean Painleve. This 3-DVD set will come with 1.33:1 transfers, mono tracks, a new score from Yo La Tengo, an interview with the band, and interviews with the legendary filmmaker. SRP is $35.96. 17 February will bring the Image Entertainment release of Palo Alto, CA. This comedy starring Ben Savage and Tom Arnold will arrive with an anamorphic widescreen transfer and a stereo track. No supplements will be included. SRP is $27.98. 10 February will bring the Paramount release of Obama: Road to the White House. This collection of 60 Minutes segments that focused on the new president will arrive with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and stereo tracks. No supplements will be included. SRP is $19.99. Image Entertainment will release Iditarod: Toughest Race on Earth on Blu-ray Disc on 7 April. This riveting Discovery Channel miniseries will arrive with 1.78:1 1080p transfers and stereo tracks. No supplements will be included. SRP is $29.98. Magnolia Home Entertainment will release Let the Right One In on Blu-ray Disc on 10 March. This acclaimed Swedish horror flick will arrive with a 1080p transfer, some deleted scenes, a making-of documentary, and a stills gallery (audio specs are still TBD). SRP is $34.95. 3 February will bring the Buena Vista release of Oliver and Company. This animated hit featuring the voice talents of Bette Midler and Billy Joel will arrive with a 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a set of featurettes, a Pluto short, and a set-top game. SRP is $29.99. The 1984 Stephen Frears cult favorite The Hit is coming to DVD from Criterion on 28 April. Starring John Hurt and Terence Stamp, the film will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a mono track, a commentary by director Stephen Frears, Hurt, and fellow actor Tim Roth, an interview with Stamp, and the film’s trailer. SRP is $29.95. Sony will release Elegy on 17 March. This Penelope Cruz and Ben Kingsley drama will arrive with a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary by director Nicholas Meyer, and a featurette. MTI will release Imprint on 10 February. This latest collection of raunchy, amazing episodes will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers, stereo tracks, and three making-of featurettes. SRP is $39.99. Sony will release The Grudge 3 on 24 March. This sequel to the hit Sarah Michelle Gellar flick stars Shawnee Smith and Marina Sirtis and will arrive with a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, and a handful of making-of featurettes. SRP is $24.96. 17 March will bring the release of Barney Miller: The Complete Third Season from Sony. Final specs have been announced for Lionsgate’s 10 February Blu-ray Disc release of W. This critically acclaimed biopic from Oliver Stone will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, a commentary track from Stone, two featurettes, and a slate of deleted scenes. SRP is $39.95. We have a date change for you. Fox’s release of The Haunting of Molly Hartley has been pushed to 24 February.
