2011: The Year In Review (Part 2 of 2)

Jan 27th, 2012

A year of stellar high-definition releases, from The Hundred Acre Wood to Compton to Middle-earth and beyond....

10. Winnie the Pooh

Buena Vista / 63 Minutes / 2011 / Rated G / Street Date: October 25, 2011

2011 was a banner year for animated titles in high-definition, yet while Cars 2 and Rango offered stunning technical advance coupled with ham-fisted story structure, the Disney underdog Winnie the Pooh upon repeat viewings stands tall as both a singularly accomplished high-definition disc and a marvelously engaging cinematic experience. Light as a feather - and barely over an hour long - this Winnie the Pooh lacks the Sterling Holloway bramble that we grew up so enamored with, but it nevertheless delivers a lilting, unironic narrative that is heavy on both retro nostalgia and breezy family-film charm.
