Last month, Amazon.com and The Criterion Collection teamed up to stage an election of sorts - Amazon.com users got to vote for one Criterion title (Au Revoir Les Enfants, Down by Law, Kwaidan, Picnic at Hanging Rock and Howards End) to come to Blu-ray Disc and they've announced a winner. At some point in calendar year 2009, Criterion will release Howard's End on BD. We'll let you know when specs start rolling in.
8 September will bring the Blu-ray Disc release of Friday from Warner. This hit comedy will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound mix, as well as a set of featurettes and a music video. SRP is $28.99.
8 September will also bring the Blu-ray Disc release of Menace II Society. This gritty drama from The Hughes Brothers will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix, and a newly-recorded commentary with the directors, producer Darin Scott, writer Tyger Williams, actor Tate and musician Ryan Williams. Also coming to Blu-ray Disc from Warner on 8 September is Set if Off. This Queenn Latifah/Jada Pinkett Smith picture will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix, a featurette and a music video. SRP is $28.99.
HBO has announced a 1 September DVD release for The No. 1 Ladie's Detective Agency: The Complete First Season. This Jill Scott series' inaugural season will arrive with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mixes, as well as a slate of featurettes. SRP is $59.99.
