2 December will bring the long-awaited release of White Dog from Criterion. This infamous Samuel Fuller drama will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic transfer, a mono sound mix, some interviews with producer Jon Davison, writer Curtis Hanson and Fuller’s widow, Christa Lang-Fuller (as well as dog trainer Karl Lewis-Miller). Warner has announced plans to release Journey to the Center of the Earth on Blu-ray Disc on 28 October. This 3-D adventure starring Brendan Fraser will arrive with four pairs of 3-D glasses (a 2-D edition of the film will also be included), as well as a 1080p transfer, a commentary with the director of the film and Fraser, three featurettes and a set-top game. Audio specs are TBD. SRP is $35.99.















9 December will bring the Fox Blu-ray Disc release of Dodgeball. This fan-favorite comedy starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn will arrive with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix, as well as a commentary track with director Rawson Marshall Thurber along with Stiller and Vaughn, some deleted scenes, a blooper reel and a set of featurettes. SRP is $34.99.















We have early word of an 18 November release of The Columbia Best Pictures Collection from Sony. This 17-DVD set will include It Happened One Night, You Can’t Take it With You, All the King’s Men, From Here to Eternity, On the Waterfront, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, A Man for All Seasons, Oliver!, Kramer vs. Kramer and Gandhi. Fox will release X-Files: Fight the Future on Blu-ray Disc on 2 December. This first feature-film in the X-Files pantheon will arrive with a 1080p transfer and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix as well as the original DVD commentary from creator Chris Carter and director Rob Bowman and a featurette. Then comes the BD-exclusive material: A picture-in-picture commentary with Carter, Bowman, writer/producer Frank Spotnitz and producer Daniel Sackheim, three featurettes, multiple in-movie BD remote-direct access features, a blooper reel, a deleted scenes, some trailers and a stills gallery. Fox has announced plans to release a Blu-ray Disc edition of Super Troopers on 9 December. This hilarious romp from the Broken Lizard troop will arrive with a 1.85:1 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix, a commentary with Broken Lizard members Jay Chandrasekhar, Erik Stolhanske, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme and Paul Soter, deleted scenes (with optional commentary), some trailers, two featurettes, as well as two BD-exclusive goodies: A picture-in-picture commentary track and a Stupor Troopers drinking game. SRP is $34.99.













9 December will bring the Criterion release of Europa. Originally released in the US as Zentropa, this Lars von Trier drama will arrive with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, an English stereo sound mix, a commentary with von Trier and his producer (in Danish with English subtitles), three featurettes, a set of interviews, a short film (Europa: The Faecal Location) by assistant director Tomas Gislason, and a 2005 conversation with the director about the film. SRP is $39.95.














Anchor Bay will release Traitor on Blu-ray Disc on 16 December. This Don Cheadle actioner will arrive with a 1080p transfer, but at this point, that’s all we know. Stay tuned for more info… SRP is $39.98.




















2 December will also bring the Blu-ray Disc release of The X-Files: I Want to Believe from Fox. This critically-acclaimed blockbuster will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix, a commentary with director Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz, three featurettes, some deleted scenes, a blooper reel, some trailers, four stills galleries and a three-part feature-length documentary, as well as some BD-exclusive material: A BD-Live X-Files Dossier feature, an interactive timeline featuring a picture-in-picture commentary with Carter and Spotnitz, four in-movie BD-remote direct-access features and an isolated score track. SRP is $39.99.











The anime hit Kitaro is headed to Blu-ray from BCI on 18 November. This feature-length film from Mizuki Shigeru will arrive with a 1080p transfer, but audio specs and details of the disc’s bonus slate are TBD. We’ll let you know as more details come our way. SRP is $24.95.

















No official word has been released, but we have it on good authority that Sony is preparing a 25 November Blu-ray release of Step Brothers. This successful summer comedy starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will arrive with a 1080p transfer and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound, but bonus specs are still TBD. Bad news for Malcolm McDowell fans – Image Entertainment has announced that their Blu-ray release of Caligula (originally slated for a 4 November release) has been pushed back to 6 January, 2009. No word has been given for the delay. We’ll keep you updated as full specs come our way in the coming months. SRP is $29.98.



















Buena Vista will release The Cheetah Girls: One World on Blu-ray Disc on 16 December. This teeny-bop musical revue will arrive with a 1.33:1 1080p transfer, a PCM 5.1 Uncompressed audio track, as well as a new music sequence, a Cheetah Spots ‘alternate version’ of the movie, some music videos and an exclusive download of the “Feels Like Love” remix. SRP is $34.99.














16 December will bring the Blu-ray Disc release of In the Name of the King. This Jason Statham adventure will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix, making-of featurettes, some deleted scenes, a trailer, and a BD-exclusive commentary track from director Uwe Boll. SRP is $39.98.
















We have full specs for Paramount/DreamWorks Blu-ray release of Kung Fu Panda. The disc will be released on Sunday (!) 9 November, and will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix, a filmmaker commentary (both audio and picture-in-picture), more than ten featurettes (two of which are BD-exclusive), a “Kung Fu Fighting” music video, a DreamWorks Animation Video Jukebox, two set-top games, and a Kung Fu Panda game trailer. More specs have been announced for Sony’s direct-to-video Blu-ray release of Open Season 2, slated for release on 27 January, 2009. This sequel to the hit animated film will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix, two featurettes and three deleted scenes, as well as a BD-exclusive set-top game (Save Mr. Weenie. SRP is $38.96.



Mill Creek Entertainment has announced plans to release The Howdy Doody Show: 40 Episodes (1949-1952) on 4 November. This collection of the once wildly-popular television series will arrive on DVD with 1.33:1 transfers and mono sound mixes, as well as a set of interviews, an interactive Howdy Doody timeline, a stills gallery and three bonus episodes. SRP is $29.98.



Coming Home Media has announced plans to release Smashing Pumpkins: If All Goes Wrong on 11 November. This 2-DVD set featuring a full concert by the best-selling rock group will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, a documentary about the band, some new tracks, and a bonus concert. SRP is $21.98.















Fox will release a 2-DVD and Blu-ray Disc The Day the Earth Stood Still: Special Edition set on 2 December. This new release of the classic Robert Wise sci-fi film will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer, a Stereo sound mix (lossless on the Blu-ray), a commentary with Wise and Nicholas Meyer, another commentary with film historians John Morgan, Steven Smith, William Stromberg and Nick Redman, four featurettes, a documentary, an audio presentation of the short story the film was based on, a 1951 newsreel, a restoration comparison, the film’s trailer and a stills gallery. SRP is $19.98.












BCI Eclipse has announced that 2 December will bring the DVD release of Password: The Best Of. This 4-DVD collection of some of the game shows grandest moments will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono sound mixes (no word yet as to bonuses). SRP is $29.98.



Warner has announced a 28 October release of The Flintstones: The Complete Series. This 24-DVD set will include every episode of the beloved animated series with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo sound mixes, and though we don’t have specifics, Warner has told us that the set will contain more than four and a half hours of bonus material. When we know what that material includes, we’ll let you know. SRP is $129.98.



Universal will release Night Gallery: Season Two on 18 November. This newest installment of the hit Rod Serling creepy-crawly series will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono sound mixes, as well as a handful of commentaries (with Night Gallery historians Jim Benson and Scott Skelton as well as director (and Gallery fan) Guillermo del Toro), a few featurettes and some TV spots. SRP is $59.98.



We have final specs for Warner’s 14 October release of The New World: Extended Cut. This new version of the flawed yet magical Terrence Malick film will arrive with 30 extra minutes of footage, as well as a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, and a ten-part making-of documentary. SRP is $19.97.
















BBC and Warner have announced that they’ll release Doctor Who: The War Machines on 6 January, 2009. This original Doctor Who adventure will be presented in 1.33:1 full-frame and will come with a mono sound mix, as well as a commentary with actor Anneke Wills and director Michael Ferguson, four featurettes, a stills gallery, some production notes, a trailer and some PDF-based DVD-ROM material. SRP is $24.98.















BBC and Warner will release Doctor Who: Four to Doomsday on 6 January, 2009. This Doctor Who story featuring Peter Davison as the title character will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer, a mono sound mix, as well as a commentary with Davison, director John Black and actors Matthew Waterhouse, Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding, an archival studio recording of Davison’s first day in the studio as the doctor, a featurette, a music video for the remixed theme music from the show, a stills gallery, some production notes, a trailer and some PDF-based DVD-ROM material. Warner will release Frisky Dingo: Season Two on 6 January. This sophomore DVD release of the hit Adult Swim series will present all twelve episodes of the season with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo sound mixes. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $19.97.



MTI Home Video will release 20 Years After on 7 October. This post-apocalyptic thriller starring Joshua Leonard and Diane Salinger will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix, a director’s commentary and a making-of featurette. SRP is $24.95.
















BBC and Warner will release The Henry James Collection on 13 January, 2009. This collection of five James-based miniseries – The Golden Bowl, The Spoils of Poynton, The Portrait of a Lady, The Wings of the Dove and The American – will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono sound mixes. At this time, no bonus features have been announced. SRP is $49.98.



Shout Factory will release Adam-12: Season Two on 30 September. This second season of the classic cop series will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono sound mixes, as well as some commentaries by the LAPD, a trivia track, and some featurettes (as well as a downloadable Adam-12 theme ringtone). SRP is $34.99.



HSN will exclusively release The Rosie O’Donnell Show: Season One – Rosie Reminisces. A specific release date hasn’t been set, but this 90-minute compilation of the first season of the comedienne’s TV talk show will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo sound mixes, as well as a few Rosie commentaries and some Rosie-penned liner notes. SRO is $19.95.
















We have early word of Genius Products’ 4 November release of Project Runway: The Complete Fourth Season. No specs or bonus features have been formally announced, although the cover art proclaims that the set will include ‘never-before-seen extended episodes’. We’ll let you know when final info comes in. MVD will release Bob Dylan’s Jesus Years on 28 October. This look at the iconic singer/songwriter’s controversial ‘born again’ phase will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a stereo sound mix, a stills gallery, two featurettes, and the capability to download the full soundtrack to the disc on mp3. SRP is $14.95.
















Shout Factory will release Jeffrey Ross – No Offense: Live From New Jersey on 14 October. This stand-up comedy special featuring the riotous roastmaster will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a stereo sound mix, as well as some bonus footage and a making-of featurette. SRP is $14.99.

















Genius Products and Animal Planet have announced a 2 December release for their 5-DVD Growing Up set. This collection of nature programs – Growing Up Arctic, Growing Up Wildcats, Growing Up Safari, Growing Up Wilderness and Growing Up Primates – will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo sound mixes. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $39.92.



Do you like musicals and have some money to burn? Fox and MGM have announced an 11 November release of The Hollywood Musicals Collection, a collection as grandiose as one might imagine. This set includes 50 (!) movies over 61 discs – films that have received the special-edition treatment will come with all the bonus goodies their original releases included – as well as fifty postcard-sized reproductions of the films’ original theatrical one-sheets.
