Soon after we received word that Sony would release The Band’s Visit on Blu-ray Disc, we heard that the release has been indefinitely postponed. The high-def release of the award-winning international release will come with a 1.78:1 1080p transfer, a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track, and a making-of featurette, but unfortunately, we don’t know exactly when that will happen. Warner/HBO is releasing Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq on 2 September. This emotionally powerful documentary about soldiers recounting their experiences in our modern war will arrive on DVD with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a stereo track. Lionsgate will release The Invincible Iron Man on Blu-ray Disc on 2 September. This animated origin film about the superhero at the center of one of this summer’s biggest movies will arrive with a 1080p transfer, an alternate opening, a featurette, and sneak peeks at Hulk vs. Wolverine and Hulk vs. Thor. SRP is $29.95.
















The girls’ soccer movie Her Best Move is headed to DVD from MGM on 19 August. Starring Leah Pipes and Gilmore Girls alum Scott Patterson, the family film will come to DVD with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. No bonuses are included. We have a street date change for you. Reno 911! Miami – The Movie: More Busted Than Ever – Unrated Edition will arrive on 23 September, a few weeks later than previously announced. The edition itself won’t change; the film will get a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, a commentary track, deleted scenes (with optional commentary), a gag reel, three public service announcements, an introduction to the film from various cast members, and the film’s trailer. SRP remains $19.98.














We have final specs for the 22 July Blu-ray Disc release of The Mummy Returns from Universal. This big-blockbuster sequel to the hit Brendan Fraser adventure will arrive with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD 5.1 track, a picture-in-picture BD-exclusive experience, full U-Control BD capacities, a commentary track with director Stephen Sommers and editor Bob Ducsay, five featurettes, a storyboard-to-film comparison feature, and a preview for The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Anchor Bay will release Queen Sized on DVD on 5 August. This Lifetime movie about the trials and tribulations of high school starring Hairspray ingénue Nikki Blonsky will arrive with a 1.33:1 transfer and a stereo track. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $19.98.

















Lionsgate will release Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow on Blu-ray Disc on 2 September. This animated adventure featuring many of The Avenger superheroes will arrive with a 1080p transfer, two featurettes, and some trailers. SRP is $29.95.

















Paramount will release This American Life: Season One on 23 September. This debut DVD installment of the wildly popular Ira Glass show will come with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, one commentary track (with Glass and director Christopher Wilca), and a stills gallery. SRP is $19.99.
















Criminal Minds: Season Three
is headed to DVD from Paramount on 16 September. This newest installment of the hit CBS crime drama will come with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, some deleted scenes, five featurettes, and a blooper reel. SRP is $55.98.



18 August will bring the Criterion release of the classic Powell/Pressburger film The Small Black Room. Starring David Farrar and Kathleen Byron, this acclaimed drama will arrive on this DVD edition with a 1.33:1 transfer, a mono track, a commentary with film scholar Charles Barr, an interview with DP Christopher Challis, and some audio-only excerpts from Powell’s autobiography dictations. SRP is $39.95.















Anchor Bay will release Masters of Science Fiction on 5 August. This release of the entire anthology series (including two episodes that were never aired) featuring adaptations of stories by Robert Heinlein, Harlan Ellison, and others will come to DVD with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. No bonuses have yet been announced. SRP is $29.97.
















We have final specs for the Funimation Blu-ray Disc release of Afro Samurai: Season One, slated for a 26 August street date. This fan favorite series featuring the voice talents of one Mr. Samuel L. Jackson will arrive with 1080p transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, two featurettes, some text-based character profiles, and some previews for other Funimation titles. SRP is $29.98.
















Paramount will release Friday the 13th: The Series – The First Season on 23 September. This beloved boob-tube spin-off of the legendary slasher movies will arrive on DVD with 1.33:1 transfers and mono mixes. No bonus features have been announced. SRP is $54.99.



HBO has announced plans to release Get Smart: Season One on 5 August. This 4-DVD collection of the first 30 episodes of the legendary show starring Don Adams and Barbara Felton will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono tracks. No bonuses have been announced. SRP is $24.98.

















The Jet Li martial arts action film Black Mask is coming to Blu-ray Disc from Lionsgate on 2 September. The film will arrive with a 1080p transfer, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track, a featurette, and a set-top game. SRP is $29.99.


















We have final specs on the Roxbury Entertainment DVD release of Route 66: The Complete First Season, slated to hit shelves on 5 August. This classic series – arguably called the original ‘road trip’ show – will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono tracks. No bonuses have been announced. SRP is $49.98.
















This one is arguably the most highly anticipated art film rerelease of the year. Criterion has finally announced a 28 August date for their new 2-DVD edition of Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom. This follow-up release to the company’s most heavily-demanded and long out-of-print title will arrive on this new edition with a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a mono Italian track, two new documentaries about the film and its director, Pier Paolo Pasolini, a set of interviews, an optional English-language track, and the film’s original theatrical trailer. SRP is $39.95.













19 August will bring the Criterion Collection release of Twenty-Four Eyes. This gentle drama from director Keisuke Kinoshita will arrive on this special edition DVD with a 1.33:1 transfer, a Japanese monaural track, and an interview with Japanese film scholar Tadao Sato about the film. SRP is $29.95.

















VCI will release Honey West: The Complete Series on 2 September. This mid-‘60s show produced by Aaron Spelling and starring pin-up Anne Francis will arrive on DVD with 1.33:1 transfers, mono tracks, a stills gallery and (always a cool addition on sets like this one) vintage commercials from the era. SRP is $39.99.

















12 August will bring the DVD release of Caroline in the City: The First Season from Paramount. This hit ‘90s sitcom starring Lea Thompson will see its inaugural season arrive with 1.33:1 transfers, stereo tracks, and a set of episode promos. SRP is $44.99.

















Paramount will release The Best of MANswers: Season One’s Top 25 MANswers on 15 July. This best-of compilation from the hit Spike TV series will hit DVD with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo tracks, but no bonus features will be included. SRP is $19.99.
















Sony has indefinitely postponed its planned 10 June Blu-ray Disc release of the Ron Howard western The Missing. No reasons have been given, but we’ll let you know when and if the studio reschedules.



Popeye the Sailor: Volume 3 (1941-1943), the newest installment of the critically acclaimed animated series, is headed to DVD from Warner on 30 September. This set will contain 32 Popeye shorts, which are all presented in 1.33:1 transfers and with mono tracks (no confirmation on a bonus slate yet). SRP is $34.98.
















We have final specs for the 12 August release of South Park: The Complete Eleventh Season from Paramount. This latest installment of the hit Comedy Central series will hit DVD as it has with its first ten seasons – with 1.33:1 transfers and stereo tracks. And we have received confirmation that creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker do offer mini-commentaries on each of the episodes on this set, as well. SRP is $39.99.















Marillion: Somewhere in London is headed to DVD from MVD on 5 August. This look at one of the United Kingdom’s most beloved cult bands will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, an entire disc of bonus songs not incorporated into the film, a featurette, and four surround tracks of songs from one of Marillion’s albums. SRP is $24.95.
















Warner is prepping a 23 September DVD release of Warner Gangsters Collection: Volume 4. This latest edition of the best-selling shoot-em-up classic film sets will include these films: The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse, The Little Giant, Larceny, Inc., Invisible Stripes and Kid Galahad. We don’t have details about specs and bonuses, so stay tuned for more info. SRP is $59.98.



26 August will bring the Warner release of One Tree Hill: The Complete Fifth Season. This popular teen melodrama will see its latest TV-on-DVD season hit the format with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, a set of deleted scenes, three featurettes, two commentary tracks with various cast and crew members, and a blooper reel. SRP is $59.98.
















30 September will bring the Arts Alliance release of B.L. Stryker: The Complete Series. This cult-adored action series starring none other than Burt Reynolds will hit DVD with all 12 feature-length episodes from its two-season run presented with 1.33:1 transfers and with mono tracks. No bonuses will be included. SRP is $54.95.



A&E will release Horatio Hornblower: Collector’s Edition on 23 September. This popular miniseries starring Ioan Gruffudd and Robert Lindsay will feature 1.33:1 transfers and stereo tracks, a cast & crew commentary track on the episode entitled Loyalty and Duty, four featurettes, an interactive 3-D canon feature, some cast and crew bios, and a stills gallery. SRP is $59.95.
















9 September will bring the Paramount DVD release of Medium: The Fourth Season. This latest release of the hit Patricia Arquette crime drama will arrive with 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. No word yet on bonus features (if any). SRP is $59.98.

















Criterion has announced a 12 August release for Guy Maddin’s Brand Upon the Brain!. This cult classic from the unique and hard-to-classify Canadian filmmaker will arrive on DVD with a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a stereo track, narration tracks from Isabella Rossellini, Laurie Anderson, John Ashbery, Maddin, Louis Negin, and Eli Wallach, a documentary on the filmmaker entitled 97 Percent True, two short films by Maddin, a deleted scene, and the film’s trailer. SRP is $39.95.














Here’s another reason for nostalgic TV-on-DVD fans to celebrate. Arts Alliance has announced a 30 September release of Banacek: The Complete Series. This hugely popular George Peppard series will arrive with 1.33:1 transfers and mono tracks; all sixteen episodes from the show’s two seasons will be included. SRP is $49.95.



9 September will bring the DVD release of the bizarre drama Light and the Sufferer from Warner. Starring Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood), this sci-fi-tinged film will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a stereo track. No bonuses have been announced. New Yorker Films has announced a 24 June DVD release for Belle Toujours. This intriguing homage to Belle de Jour from director Manoel de Oliveira will arrive with a 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a French stereo track, a set of interviews, a stills gallery, and the film’s trailer.
